29 security product certifications issued in Q3
It has been 11 years since we introduced the OPSWAT Certified Security Applications Program, and we are happy to announce that just in Q3 this year, OPSWAT has certified 29 applications.
Application compatibility is important when trying to access a network. Without certified compatibility, not only do users risk being denied access, but also administrators must spend time writing policy exceptions. The OPSWAT certification program ensures CASB, NAC, SSL-VPN, and SSO compatibility with the top market leading access control solutions from vendors such as F5, Palo Alto Networks, Citrix, and many others, covering over 200 million endpoints. These efforts include compatibility tests for consistency of experience, improved performance, and enhanced security. Our compatibility tests have been designed in collaboration with industry partners and are continuously improved in response to industry developments and consumer demand.
Our certification program was born out of a framework to detect and manage a myriad of security endpoint applications in three distinct steps:
1. Detection – determine if the product is installed on the device
2. Posture Assessment -- determine the status of the product: ensure it’s running, check installed directories, validate that it is authentic. Each application category is subject to its own specific evaluation criteria; for example, we check to see if the real-time protection is enabled in an AV application and that the firewall is activated.
3. Remediation -- update the state of the product, e.g. for AV applications, we can enable RTP, and for firewall we can turn the feature on.
The certification framework supports special clients such as Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) and software applications that have a central dashboard for device management. For security applications, there are three levels of certifications:
Detectable, fast and straightforward to implement
Detectable, has accessible advanced functions
Detectable with sophisticated advanced functions
The certification process makes use of signatures; these signatures represent product characteristics obtained through measuring major critical points such as registry values, run-time services and filesystem content. A product is certified when all relevant components within it are individually checked and have associated signatures which have passed the tests. Based on collective signature certifications, the product’s certification and its level are determined.
Certifying an application means handing over the required resources (installer, documentation) to our engineering team and providing them with support, if needed. If necessary, our team will enhance the SDK to detect the product, as well as to implement methods for retrieving the status of the application, or even interacting with it, via the API.
