OPSWAT Continues to Expand OESIS Framework with New Partners and Technology Enhancements

The OPSWAT and Palo Alto Networks partnership was formed in 2010; and in 2011 Palo Alto Networks successfully integrated the OESIS Framework Device Compliance Module into GlobalProtect™ to implement security policy compliance checks for all network connections running on PAN-OS proprietary operating system. This integration was subsequently added in GlobalProtect Cloud Service (now Prisma™ Access) in 2017.

This year, Palo Alto Networks and OPSWAT extended the partnership to integrate support for new endpoint platforms and IoT devices in GlobalProtect and Prisma Access for branch offices, retail locations, and mobile users. The integration detects and assesses the endpoint state and the third-party security applications running on the endpoint. The Host Information Profile (HIP) collects information about the security status of the endpoints in the network, which is used for gateway policy enforcement. Moreover, OESIS Framework also empowers Palo Alto Networks’ Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution, thereby allowing for consistent security policy definition and enforcement across distributed networks.

Through this partnership, Palo Alto Networks and OPSWAT provide a platform for both on-premises and cloud-delivered access security and reducing network traffic blind spots. OPSWAT has built the OESIS Framework SDK based on the OPSWAT Access Control Certification Program, which helps provide reliable and consistent metrics for validating the effectiveness of anti-malware products and establishing device trust. The OESIS Framework consists of seven modules as depicted in the diagram below.

Work on the OESIS Framework started in 2002 and currently is in its 4th generation (v4). It is a modular, cross-platform, open development framework with seven modules that enables software engineers and technology vendors to develop products that detect, classify, and manage more than 5,000 third-party software applications. With the broad adoption of OESIS Framework, more than 100 million enterprise devices are managed by leading access control vendors, providing advanced device trust to their customers.

OPSWAT provides comprehensive integration-ready secure access solutions including the OESIS Framework SDK and MetaAccess Platform. MetaAccess also relies on the OESIS Framework to provide device trust functionality.
