Windows Anti-Malware Market Share Report, August 2018

Each month, OPSWAT publishes a Windows Anti-Malware Market Share Report, which provides an update on the market share of the leading anti-malware vendors and products. The report focuses on the anti-malware products versus traditional anti-virus engines because they offer protection from a greater range of threats, such as PUAs, ransomware, spyware, keyloggers and botnets.

The purpose of this report is to inspire discussion in the anti-malware community and to report on the security practices of our free users. It represents over 40 million data points collected from thousands of live Windows machines and includes both corporate and home users, making it one of – if not the – definitive reports on the adoption and use and anti-malware engines.

The report itself lives on metadefender.opswat.com and provides an interactive experience: for every vendor mentioned on the report you can click through to get more data about that vendor’s anti-malware products, including the adoption rates of each vendor’s products (if they offer multiple anti-malware engines), and their distribution across device types and operating systems.

The data in this August 2018 report was generated on August 27th and includes data collected in the last 6 months from users of our free tools, including MetaDefender Cloud Client. MetaDefender Cloud Client is an endpoint forensics tool that can scan endpoints for malware and vulnerabilities using more than 35+ anti-malware and vulnerability engines and can scan drive boots sectors.

NOTE: Although Microsoft is heavily saturated in the anti-malware product market, we have excluded this vendor because we feel that its products do not accurately represent the user's product of choice as they come pre-installed on many Windows systems and cannot be removed.

Check out our previous Market Share Reports to compare data from past reports. In the coming months, we’ll provide some additional trend information and commentary, and encourage anyone using anti-malware products to check back frequently for the latest information.
